During August, September and October I managed to see a few of the irregular Garden birds.

This Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird stopped by during a visit in August 2021.Yellow Fronted Tinkerbird

I did not visit that much during winter, and I thought I’d missed out on the Fairy Flycatchers. I was therefore very surprised to see this little cutie on 11 September 2021, right at the end of their Gauteng season!Fairy Flycatcher Fairy Flycatcher

This is not  a bird, but this Rock Agama joined us while we were waiting for the your Eagle to fledge.Rock Agama

I was also able to add a new bird to my Garden Bird List – a Brown Backed Honeybird.Brown Backed Honeybird

On a quiet September morning I ended my visit with 2 of the most colourful birds (and most difficult to get on camera) in the Garden. First a pair of Orange-breasted Bushshrikes displayed quite nicely. These guys are normally challenging to get on camera, but on this morning they were more than willing to pose for photos, especially the gorgeous male.Orange Breated BushshrikeOrange Breated Bushshrike  Orange Breated Bushshrike

As I walked out of the gate I heard the Grey-headed Bushshrike calling. I searched for a while, and then saw him as Laughing Dove chased him from his hiding place.Grey Headed Bushshrike

The best part of this time of year is the fact that so many birds are breeding. This African Grey Hornbill and her youngster landed in the tree next to where I was having coffee at the waterfall. African Grey HornbillAfrican Grey Hornbill

And while Helmeted Guineafowl are not difficult to see in the Gardens, they are a species that I find really challenging to photograph.Helmeted Guineafowl
