The Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden is my go-to place for birding in Johannesburg. The Garden is home to a tremendous variety of birds, and I often call the Garden the “Bird” Garden”. I have seen about 25% of the birds on my life list In the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens.

The Garden is also home to a pair of Verreaux’s Eagles. We are incredibly lucky to have these magnificent birds right here in the city. It is a tremendous experience to stand at the top of the waterfall and have the Eagles fly past almost within touching distance. When the adults and youngsters display it often leaves me speechless and simply grateful to see such beauty.
