A story about Sweni Hide
The Sweni hide is one of my favourite hides. There is often action, and even when there isn‘t, it is one of the most relaxing places because it is out of the way and there are never too many visitors.
I visited the Sweni hide twice during the trip. On the first visit there was a lot of action. There was a constant stream of small groups of elephants that came and went.
The one herd had a cute little tinyfant with them.
Being playful is thirsty work!
As usual the one with the big smile was also there.
There were a lot of birds – Pied Wagtails, a Grey heron, a few Sandpipers and Plovers, a Black Crake and this Green-backed Heron.
On the other side of the hide a pair of impala rams were having a play fight.
A beautiful Waterbuck was having a drink end he was soon joined by a herd of Zebras.
Things were a lot quieter on my second visit. There was a pretty Saddle-billed stork.
I caught this Egyptian Goose as he came in for a landing.

A story about Lake Panic
I‘d seen on social media that Lake Paninc‘s water levels were very low due to the broken pump. I visited anyway.
Even with the low water levels there was some activity. There were 3 Squacco herons and a pair of Green-backed Herons. A monitor lizard was sneaking about.
There was also a Pied Wagtail and a few African Jacanas.
There were an Egyptian Goose family with some fluffy chicks.
The Black Crakes were the busy little bees that they always are.
On the far side of the dam there were still a few hippos.
I also made a quick stop at the golf course. A pair of Nyalas were grazing nearby.
I was hoping to add Scarlet-chested Sunbirds to my trip list and was fortunate to find one in the exact bush I saw them the last time I was there.
