When I planned my various trips, I read an article that mentioned that the churches in Uniondale, Clanwilliam, Stellenbosch and a number of other towns were all designed by Carl Otto Hager. I thought it would be cool to see the churches when I drive through some of these towns. The first one is the beautiful Dutch Reformed Church in Uniondale.
50 years go I was born in a little town called Middleburg, just an hour from MZNP. I went to look at our house, but people made some changes, and it didn’t look the same anymore. I stopped at the hospital. It was 50 years and one day since I had been born in this building.
But Middelburg is always about my Mountain – Renosterberg. I was fascinated by this mountain since I was a tiny girl, and I was adamant that I would live on top of the mountain when I grow up.
On this day he was even more beautiful than I remember.
Just before Colesberg I saw some Blue Cranes.
I stopped in Bloem to visit with my son and my mom. Richard gave me a little birthday cake.
Eventually I hit the road for the final stretch of my road trip. As I drove the very familiar N1 between Bloemfontein and home, I had time to reflect on the past two weeks.
I always go on every holiday firmly believing that it will be awesome, and it always delivers. This holiday was no exception. Every day was fantastic, and every day had special moments that I will remember forever. The holiday did not feel too long or too short. It was just long enough.
We live in a stunningly beautiful country, and it was a privilege to to drive through some of the most scenic parts of our wonderful country.
While I was updating this blog, I heard a quote by Walt Whitman:
The best and most effective medicine my soul has yet partaken.
I think it sums up perfectly how I feel about this trip.
